Creating a Caring Classroom
Based on recent research done by the
National Institute of Child Health
and Human Development, students do
better academically when they are
valued as individuals by their
teachers. With a focus on inclusion,
open communication and shared goals,
this presentation provides practical
ideas and innovative strategies for
promoting a sense of caring,
belonging and connectedness in the
classroom. Many classroom teachers
have caring classrooms. These
teachers will be encouraged to share
their ideas during the session.
Participants will leave the session
with a renewed sense of purpose to
create and maintain a classroom
atmosphere that supports and
encourages all students.
Help
for the Stressed-Out Teacher
Teaching is a great and rewarding
career with high expectations for
classroom teachers! Teachers are
expected to inspire and teach
students, interact with parents,
co-workers, administrators, keep
accurate records and maintain a
healthy environment in the
classroom. Sometimes this becomes
overwhelming and stressful. Even
though stress is a part of all of
our lives, too much stress can cause
damage to a person’s body, and can
also lead to job dissatisfaction.
Participants will learn effective
strategies and techniques to help
with the day to day stressors of
their personal and professional
life. Many relaxation techniques
will be discussed and demonstrated.
Helping
Teachers Connect with Students
Most people would agree with the
statement “Working with children and
youth on a daily basis demands
never-ending patience, and steadfast
commitment”. Many trials await the
classroom teacher; yet through it
all, she or he is expected to teach
and inspire students. This
presentation focuses on the best
tool that teachers have to make a
difference in the classroom and that
tool is building a relationship with
the student. Discussion will center
around five “A’s”, Acceptance,
Attention, Appreciation, Affirmation
and Affection, to help teachers
connect with students. Understanding
and application of these concepts
will lead to better classroom
management and increased
achievement.
No, and You Can’t Make Me!
All classrooms come equipped with
students who have learned
appropriate classroom behavior
and students who are disruptive
and have a goal of distracting
everyone around them. This
presentation is designed to assist
the teacher in creating and
maintaining a climate that is
structured, student centered, and
conducive to learning. Participants
will be provided with an in-depth
look at resistant behavior, the
rules of resistant students, the
goals of disruptive behavior, and
strategies and suggestions
that will lead to better classroom
management resulting in increased
attention and learning. |
